  12.    o Internet Accounting Background:  published as an RFC in November
  13.      1991.

  15.    o Internet Accounting Architecture:  needs some clarification,
  16.      otherwise it is ready for security review and publication as an
  17.      RFC.
  18.  
  19.    o Internet Accounting MIB: simplifications needed, not ready for
  20.      publication as MIB yet.

  23. The University of Auckland is implementing the MIB and will report on
  24. their progress at the next IETF. Nevil Brownlee submitted several
  25. suggested modifications which require clarification on the mailing list.
  26. It was agreed that the MIB will be published as an Experimental MIB in
  27. the hope that network management protocols will improve sufficiently in
  28. the next year to provide a better basis for a standard accounting MIB.
  29. In particular, bulk transfer and the reporting of data in traps are
  30. desirable.

  32. A second implementation is needed.  It was suggested that we solicit
  33. support from FARNET, publish an article in the Simple Times, and give a
  34. plenary technical presentation at the next IETF.

  36. Semyan Dukach of MIT gave a brief presentation on has work on
  37. application-level billing protocols.

  39. Future Direction
  40.  
  41. The Internet Accounting Working Group plans to hold its last active
  42. meeting in November, since with the publication of the three documents
  43. it has fulfilled its Charter.  At that meeting the final recommendation
  44. to the IESG for the status (e.g., Draft Standard or Experimental) of the
  45. architecture and the MIB will be made.  Any further activity after that
  46. will take place on the mailing list.

  48. Possible future directions for future working groups include:

  51.    o Implementor's Working Group to improve SNMP MIB.
  52.    o SMP and/or SNMP over TCP/IP implementation.
  53.    o Application-level accounting extensions.
